The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of 13,500 euros on the deputy of the Parliament of Catalonia

Eulàlia Reguant

for a crime of serious disobedience to the authority, by refusing to answer Vox in the procés trial.

The decision means that the CUP deputy will maintain her position in the regional Chamber.

The Supreme Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of four months in prison and disqualification for public office, which if imposed would have meant the loss of her seat.

The sentence opts for the milder penalty of a fine, explaining that it does so largely because of that consequence of the prison sentence.

He explains that there are no reasons to opt for the most serious option, "not only because it is a prison sentence, but also because of the accessory consequences that it entails - special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of conviction -, therefore, not infringing the principle of proportionality of the sentence in relation to the right to political participation that is invoked by the defense, since we opted for the imposition of the fine".

Regarding the nine-month fine, the court explains that it does not impose the possible minimum of six months given the publicity and importance of the trial in which the disobedience took place.

Regarding the amount that must be paid for each day of the fine, she opts for 50 euros, taking into account her income as a deputy.

The law allows a minimum of two euros per day and a maximum of 400.
