And today Snam formally, at a service conference and not in front of a coffee at the bar, admitted that
Piombino is not among the eligible locations for the offshore plant
.
This leads us to be satisfied, to rejoice, to believe that common sense has prevailed.
This is the fruit of our stance ”.
Francesco Ferrari, mayor of Piombino (Livorno), today in Florence, rejoices at the end of the second session of the
Conference of services
on the regasification plant that should be located in the port of the city.
“From the first day - he continues in Florence, at the end of the meeting called in the Region - we have supported
the absolute opposition
also of the offshore hypothesis.
A plant in the Gulf of Follonica, in fact, would have undermined the productive activity of fish farming ".
But even if positioned "farther away, in the middle of the Piombino canal", it would have led to major
environmental repercussions "on our sea"
, or rather on the "cetacean sanctuary, enormously impacting also the revival of tourism".
But Snam, he reiterates, “has reassured us, without however telling us
what the alternatives will be
”.
It is, he adds, "
a first conquest
, the result of a position taken by local institutions and the entire city".
However, he warns, "this does not mean that we continue to be
opposed to the
regasification ship" moored for three years in the port ".
A no, she explains, motivated by “technical, scientific and legal reasons.
There is a question of safety and health, which we believe are not guaranteed ”.
And on this point "the Snam documents, the responses to our exceptions, are not satisfactory".
The president of Tuscany, Eugenio Giani, also expressed his opinion on the location to which to move the regasification terminal: “we reiterated and well focused the fact that the offshore platform
will not touch Piombino or the Gulf of Follonica
.
Snam has proposed to update the point on 21 October and provide an answer that also depends on the entity that can best calibrate the position of the platform in the context of marine fluctuations ”.
