Poland offered to the United States to place nuclear weapons on its territory.

The fear of a Russian attack is growing and the Polish government continues to be as firm as possible against the aggressor.

But if this request has no chance of succeeding, this speech is very symbolic on the national scene.

For the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, it is important to be implacable in the face of Russia and Belarus.

Legislative elections are scheduled for next year.

And inevitably, the war in Ukraine will be in the minds of the Poles.

So the party multiplies symbolic decisions.

President Andrzej Duda's latest request to station US nuclear weapons on Polish soil is unlikely to be granted.

It would not be militarily strategic and the United States did not even have an official request from Poland.

Firmness towards Russia

But by adopting this rigid position, the country shows itself to be one of the most severe in the European Union vis-à-vis Moscow.

Poland is notably

one of the only countries in Europe to refuse all Russian citizens

on its territory, even in possession of Schengen visas.

And earlier this month, representatives of the Law and Justice party inaugurated

a new shipping canal

and

gas

pipeline with great fanfare.

Two infrastructures to bypass Russian imports.

With this firmness, the party tries to show itself as the defender of the interests of Poles and Europeans.

He hopes voters will remember this when they vote next year.
