"USAID Administrator Samantha Power today announced a $55 million investment in thermal infrastructure in Ukraine to help prepare for winter," the agency's official website said in a statement.

The funds are supposed to be directed to the restoration and support of pipelines and other equipment necessary for the delivery of heat to homes and institutions.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden approved the allocation of a new $675 million military aid package to Ukraine.

According to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Western aid to Kyiv is designed for the long term.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the United States had actually become a party to the conflict in Ukraine.
