The announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize will take place on Friday, October 7, at 11 a.m.

In 2021, Russian journalists Maria Ressa and Dmitri Muratov were rewarded.

This year, with Ukraine at war, the conflict and Moscow politics could once again be at the heart of the nomination.

But the committee could also choose to reward those who mobilize in the face of the climate emergency.

The list of candidates is not public, they are 343 this year, but names are circulating.

To denounce the war in Ukraine, the Belarusian

Svetlana Tikhanovskaia

or the Russian

Alexei Navalny

would be in a good place, according to the peace research institute in Oslo.

Both for their non-violent commitment to defending democracy and their opposition to war.

The International Criminal Court, which documents war crimes, could also claim the title, as could the investigative site Bellingcat.

Also circulating the name of Pope Francis, a regular.

Another fight for peace and democracy is that of opponents of the repression of the Burmese junta.

In a broader context, the International Court of Justice, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees or the NGO Transparency International are also nobélisables.

But the

implications of climate change

for peace and security around the world may be the committee's favourite.

And the potential winners are numerous.

Among them, the Fridays for Future movement, the UN Framework Convention on Climate or

Simon Kofe, the Minister of the Tuvalu Islands threatened with extinction

, or Nisreen Elsaim, a 26-year-old Sudanese activist who chairs the Advisory Group of youth on climate change at the UN.
