Carolyn R. Bertozzi is one of this year's three Nobel Prize winners in chemistry.

When SVT reached her, she was still very surprised.

- I'm shocked and trying to catch my breath here, but I'm obviously overjoyed, says Bertozzi.

Bertozzi was asleep when the Nobel Committee called her to give her the happy news.

- The phone rang and it woke me up and it took a minute to fumble around and realize what was going on, says Bertozzi.

"Early days of click chemistry"

Carolyn R. Bertozzi's research has meant a lot to chemistry.

But the very field for which she is awarded the Nobel Prize is still in its infancy.

- I would argue that this is still the early days of the research field, says Bertozzi.

When SVT asks how she plans to celebrate the news, the surprise returns.

- I'm still digesting it.

I actually don't know, that's a good question, says Bertozzi with a throaty laugh.
