During the week, Operation Stockholm is underway with four military units from the Life Guard carrying out various military exercises in Stockholm's inner city.

A total of 300 people cross waterways with patrol boats, run an obstacle course in Karlberg or carry out healthcare activities at Gärdet.

Otto Melén rappelled for the first time down a 15 meter high house facade in Årstadal.

- It tingled a little when you looked out of the window, but then they went very well when I was brought down, says Otto Melén, at the shooting company.

Otto is 18 years old, from Enskede and one of several recruits in the Life Guard who have been doing the rags for just eight weeks.

The military exercise is intended to test the soldiers' ability to cope with military operations under stressful conditions in an urban environment.

Hear Otto Melén talk in the video clip about how it feels to do military service in a troubled world situation.

Ten years ago, Operation Stockholm was organized and then there was a dormant period of applicants for military service.

However, an increase in conscripts has been seen since the downward trend was broken at the end of February.

- Now that we have an increase in conscription and are also going to expand it, we will have larger recruits and be able to take back Operation Stockholm again, says Major and exercise leader Gerhard Magnusson.

Repelling, being held down, may be required in an evacuation situation out of a building.
