"Unfortunately, I am not 100% to defend my chances on Saturday on the Tour of Lombardy. After discussion with the team, we have decided to end my 2022 season", indicated the Groupama-FDJ rider in a statement.
The Finistère climber, who will be 26 next Monday, gave up during his last two preparation races for the classic of the dead leaves, Monday at the Coppa Bernocchi and Tuesday at the Three Valleys Varesines.
Not selected for the World Championships in Australia, Gaudu completes a season which he describes as "pivotal with ups, downs, but above all this beautiful fourth place in the Tour de France", the best result for a Frenchman since 2017.
The other leader of Groupama-FDJ, Thibaut Pinot, has also ended his season and will not participate on Saturday in the last Monument of the season, which he won in 2018.
