HMS Sturkö is usually used by divers who clear mines and defuse explosive charges on the seabed.

The ship is part of the third naval battle flotilla and is, according to the Swedish Armed Forces, "always prepared to be part of larger composite forces for operations in Sweden or abroad".

The ship's transmitter shows that for two days it was at the site of the suspected explosions that took place on September 26.

The navy has not confirmed the information that DN learned about, but confirms that another ship, HMS Belos, is in the area.

- We support the Coast Guard with underwater surveys, says the navy's head of communications Jimmie Adamsson to Dagens Nyheter.

Complementary capacity

The suspicion is that the lines between Russia and Germany have been subjected to sabotage – the explosions took place approximately 80 meters below the sea surface.

HMS Sturkö is equipped with towed sonar and an underwater robot.

According to DN, the three times longer HMS Belos should be "a better platform" for going down with divers when the Swedish Armed Forces support the Security Police in their investigative work.

Security reasons for delay

After last week's gas leaks coincided with what according to seismographic data were explosions, it has not been possible to investigate the incident until the underwater pipelines were completely empty of gas.

The investigation was then expected to be able to start on Sunday.

The survey work may take several weeks, the company consortium Nord Stream AG, which owns Nord Stream 1, announced.
