An unexpected competition ensued as nearly 30 people bid for Chinese porcelain with an appraised value of 2.8 million won recently auctioned at the Osena auction house in Fontainebleau, France.

The pottery eventually sold for 7.7 million euros, or about 10.84 billion won, which is 4,000 times the appraised value.

The final purchase price including the auction fee was over 12.8 billion won, and the successful bidder was known as an anonymous Chinese.

The foreign media explained that the reason for the sharp jump in the successful bid was that an unexpected bidding competition took place as some bidders were convinced that this pottery was a rare artifact made in the 18th century.

An auction house official said, "This item is a very ordinary pottery made in the 20th century," and "It is very rare that it is a work that is 200 years old."

However, he added, "Chinese people are passionate about their history and are proud to own historical relics."

Netizens commented, "Is this a show of money? It looks like a pottery I made about two months ago..." "Only the seller was a hit! Is there anything I can get that deserves 4,000 times more?"

showed a reaction.
