Hossein Sheiban is a lecturer at Stockholm University.

He has his background in Iran and was raised during the Iranian revolution.

He has a good grasp of what is happening in Iran right now and about the part that concerns the country's restriction of the Internet and social media.

Social media apps like Whatsapp and Instagram cannot be used, the same goes for other popular communication apps.

The disruptions are seen as the biggest since 2019. At that time, the internet was limited during the extensive fuel prices.

- It worked then and you think it will work again.

Then they shut down and isolated Iran from the rest of the world.

Then you have your hands free to do what you want, says Sheiban.

"You want to break contact"

Hossein Sheiban also talks about the long-term plan that the regime in the country has regarding the internet.

- There are long-term plans in Iran to break the connection between the Iranian internet and the rest of the world.

They want to control everything and have a national internet at the same time that the connections to the "real internet" must be made through controlled means, says Hossein.
