Guterres condemns North Korea's missile test

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday condemned North Korea's launch of a ballistic missile that flew over Japan, denouncing what he described as an "escalation," his spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

The spokesman said that the Secretary-General called on the North Korean government to resume dialogue with the parties concerned with a view to the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In a related context, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) criticized North Korea for conducting a series of missile tests in recent days, calling on it to engage in diplomacy.

"I strongly condemn the dangerous and destabilizing missile tests by North Korea," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Twitter.

He added that the missile tests violated UN Security Council resolutions, adding that North Korea should abandon its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
