Equal pay in companies is at the top of the priority projects for employees in terms of equal opportunities, according to a barometer presented on Monday by the Medef.

According to the 12th edition of this annual study, 53% of the 1,500 people questioned last May by TNS Sofres consider equal pay to be a priority subject for their company and 20% cite it first.

Gender equality in second place

This concern affects both women (56%) and men (51%), said Armelle Carminati, president of the Inclusive Business Committee of the Medef, at the opening of Responsible and Inclusive Business Week in Paris. .

Equality between women and men comes in second place (49%) of concerns, followed by age (39%) and the view of disability (35%).

The fear of being the victim of discrimination has again declined, reaching "a historic low", according to Armelle Carminati.

But 32% of respondents still believe that they could be victims of discrimination in their company and the proportion is for the first time the same for men and women.

Age remains largely at the top of the factors that arouse this fear (43%) ahead of physical appearance or level of education (23%) and sex (21%).

Between 2017 and 2022, the proportion of employees who consider their company to be increasingly representative of the diversity of society has increased from 71% to 82%.

CSR, a subject still little known to employees

Medef finally listed six societal subjects of potential "tension" in business, including religion, politics but also the protection of the environment and animals.

A growing number of respondents (36%, up eight points) believe they have encountered at least one “extreme” behavior on one of these topics.

The employers' organization also presented on Monday its annual barometer on the perception of CSR (corporate social responsibility), a subject still little known to employees.

Thus, 36% of employees surveyed are aware of an entity dedicated to CSR in their company, barely more than for the entity dedicated to diversity and equal opportunities (33%).

According to the CSR barometer also carried out by TNS Sofres, the priority for employees remains health and safety at work (74%), almost on par with the quality of life at work (92%) and ahead of equal opportunities ( 57%).
