Taiwan's self-produced "high-end" new crown vaccine has been controversial since it was launched last year. Even if the DPP authorities are fully "escorted", the public's confidence in vaccinating this problematic vaccine is still low, resulting in a large number of products being expired and scrapped.

Recently, the turmoil has re-emerged. Taiwanese people who had taken the initiative or had no choice but to vaccinate the vaccine found that "high-end" was not recognized by Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, and they had to accept additional restrictions such as preparing a negative nucleic acid test certificate in advance when going to relevant countries and regions.

"High-end" is not high-end, controversy continues

The Taiwan region has recently started the first phase of "unblocking" entry and exit.

Some people are excited to arrange a trip to Japan, but they learn that the "high-end" vaccine they have received is not recognized, and they need to pay 3,500 yuan (NTD, the same below) for nucleic acid PCR testing.

As soon as the news came out, it caused widespread dissatisfaction and ridicule.

Not just Japan, entry into the UK and EU with "high-end" vaccination records is also not recognised.

Experts from Taiwan have analyzed that Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union mainly refer to the World Health Organization's emergency use list for vaccines, which does not include "high-end".

Since obtaining the "Emergency Use Authorization" (EUA), "high-end" has been controversial all the way.

Phase III clinical trials are required to verify the vaccine protection rate, which is a key element in confirming the success of vaccine development.

Taiwan's "high-end", which was highly publicized beforehand, failed to complete Phase III clinical trials, but was awarded an EUA. The review mechanism was the first to raise suspicions.

Last year, the whole of Taiwan opened to the public, and various counties and cities successively reported adverse reactions after vaccination with "high-end" vaccines, and there were many cases of suspected deaths due to the vaccination.

In particular, in August last year, a Taiwanese columnist voluntarily and high-profile vaccinated "high-end" and died suddenly the next day, causing an uproar, and the public's willingness to vaccinate was greatly reduced.

Unused vaccines must be destroyed upon expiration of their validity period.

As of September 15 this year, among the various brands of vaccines purchased by the Taiwan authorities, about 587,000 doses of "high-end" vaccines that have not yet been released from the warehouse and have expired, and about 14,000 doses of "high-end" vaccines that have expired as reported by counties and cities, causing huge amounts of money Waste, calculated at an average of 845 yuan per dose, totals about 500 million yuan, which is the highest loss among all brands of vaccines.

  Interest transmission, deliberate support?

Doubtful

So far, "high-end" has not completed the third phase of clinical trials, and has used the first and second phase reports all the way to "spoof".

The public has noticed that the DPP authorities have “endorsed” the vaccine in an “immune bridging” method with undetermined scientific status, simplifying relevant procedures and authorizing its marketing through EUA.

In fact, several Taiwanese biotech companies also have vaccine production lines and have OEM experience and capabilities. They have worked hard to seek cooperation with global authoritative pharmaceutical companies and strive for authorization, but the relevant raw materials have not been allowed to enter the island, and vaccine production is only carried out by "high-end pharmaceutical companies". "monopoly.

Yan Bowen, executive director of the Tzu Chi Charity Foundation in Taiwan, recently recalled the hardships of purchasing and donating the new crown vaccine last year, causing a public outcry.

In May last year, the large-scale outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Taiwan, coupled with the chaotic anti-epidemic policies of the DPP authorities, put politics over science and people's livelihood, resulting in a "vaccine shortage" on the island.

In order to promote "high-end", the DPP authorities, in disregard of humanity, not only refused BNT and other vaccines to enter Taiwan, but also obstructed non-governmental organizations from purchasing.

Regarding the intention to donate vaccines by many companies and non-governmental organizations at that time, the DPP authorities put forward 8 requests to block them.

Yan Bowen revealed that at that time, there were many business and politicians who persuaded Tzu Chi not to purchase because the authorities would not allow it.

However, the tide of private vaccine self-help was unstoppable. In the end, it took Tzu Chi 57 days to sign the five-party contract to settle the vaccine procurement.

Many medical experts on the island believe that the decision to escort "high-end" vaccines and block the import of other brands of vaccines violates both medical knowledge and medical ethics.

Netizens on the island also criticized on social media that the DPP authorities disregarded the lives and health of the people and did almost everything they could to deliver benefits to the "high-end", but what they got was the result that the "high-end" was not recognized by the world.

For the election, Wen Guo pretended to be wrong

Up to now, the cumulative number of local deaths from new coronary pneumonia in Taiwan has reached 11,000.

Chen Shizhong, who used to be the head of the health and welfare affairs department of the DPP authority, is running for mayor of Taipei City, and even self-assessed that "the epidemic prevention has been very successful."

Public opinion and criticism on the island came one after another, including Chen Shui-bian, many people even pointed out that he was "walking on ten thousand corpses".

Some Taiwanese media recently checked the data on the official website of Taiwan's "Food and Drug Administration" and found that there was a huge difference between the official procurement of "high-end" deliveries, usage and inventory, with more than 780,000 doses "missing."

The authorities responded that 127,800 doses had been lost and the remaining 660,000 doses had not been delivered and were used by high-end companies themselves. This statement aroused strong doubts among the people.

It is worth noting that in the face of private doubts about the details of the "high-end" procurement contract, the health and welfare affairs department of the DPP authority even sealed the vaccine procurement contract for 30 years and listed it as a confidential file.

Chen Shizhong argued that "it is not sealing, but preservation".

From the "vaccine shortage" caused by the large-scale outbreak of the epidemic last year, to now, tens of thousands of people have lost their lives due to the epidemic, and epidemic prevention tragedies continue to be staged in Taiwan, destroying people's lives one after another.

More and more people have realized that Chen Shizhong and the DPP politicians behind him should apologize and be responsible for the consequences of the epidemic prevention mistakes.

His so-called "epidemic prevention achievements" have become irrefutable evidence of the DPP's ineffective governance. It is not only a "hard injury" in the Taipei mayoral election, but also destroyed the trust that some supporters once gave to the party.

Everything is self-inflicted, and it remains to be seen how much public backlash the party will encounter in the "nine-in-one" election at the end of the year.
