A 48-year-old man, suspected of having hidden for several months the death of the man with whom he lived in Saint-Étienne and whose bank card he continued to use, was indicted and then imprisoned, indicates the Saint-Étienne public prosecutor's office.

Presented as a homeless person "hosted by the deceased", the forty-year-old was arrested last Wednesday as he fled the home of his 76-year-old host, who had died several months ago.

The alert had been given to the fire brigade and the police by the occupants of the accommodation below while a stain was forming on their ceiling and a pestilential odor was emerging.

No trace of violence revealed during the autopsy

Presented to an investigating judge on Friday, the suspect "was indicted for failure to assist a person in danger and aggravated scams", committed "to the detriment of a vulnerable person, in particular given the age of the victim “, specifies the public prosecutor of Saint-Étienne, David Charmatz.

He was then placed "under a warrant of committal and imprisoned in the prison of La Talaudière (Loire)" on Friday, continued the magistrate, adding that "the investigation carried out did not make it possible to retain the intervention of a third party upon the occurrence of death”.

The autopsy does not reveal any trace of violence, even if additional analyzes are in progress to confirm this result, he concluded.
