The

FBI

warns of the influence that

Russia

and

China

are trying to exert on the US elections, in view of the midterm vote, the round of elections for the congress held in the middle of the presidential term, in November.

According to intelligence information obtained by the Associated Press, the US federal authorities believe that Moscow seeks to

amplify doubts

regarding the

integrity of the electoral process

, while

Beijing

would aim to influence the political debate, with reference to Chinese interests.

The FBI sent a

warning to

state and local authorities in mid-September.

However,

they would not have been identified

credible threats to the US electoral infrastructure.

Recent

Russian-influenced

operations , which have been more pronounced than Chinese ones, typically involve

amplifying conversations

Americans have on social media or other platforms rather than creating new content, a

senior Foreign official said Monday. FBI

Influence Task Force

in a media briefing.

For their part,

Chinese agents

have shown signs of engaging in greater "

Russian-style influence activity

" that fuels American divisions, the FBI official said.

The official highlighted the

recent closure of Meta-owned Facebook accounts

originating in China that posted memes mocking President

Joe Biden

and Republican Senator

Marco Rubio

of Florida.
