The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, announced today, Monday, the release of Igor Murashov, the Director-General of the Russian-controlled Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine.

Grossi said in a tweet on "Twitter" that he "received confirmation that Murachov has returned to his family."

On Saturday, Ukrainian authorities accused Russian forces of kidnapping Murashov, saying he was pulled from his car and taken away while blindfolded.

The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency did not specifically name Russia, nor did he provide any details of what happened to Murachov.

Russia took control of the Zaporizhia station in early March.

Since then, repeated bombing in the area has caused damage to energy infrastructure, as well as damage to buildings at the sprawling site. The warring parties blamed each other for the attacks, and the International Atomic Energy Agency warned that the risks of fighting would lead to more deaths. A nuclear disaster occurred, and called for the creation of a safe zone around the plant, which is still operated by a number of Ukrainian workers.
