Västerstrandsskolan had open and unprotected showers in its premises for a long time.

But after an extensive renovation that was completed in the fall of 2019, they invested in the safety of the students in the changing rooms and the showers.

Lockable shower stalls were then installed.

But there are still students who feel unsafe in the changing rooms.

- Based on our well-being survey, we see that 86 percent of our students feel that they are always safe in our changing rooms and showers, so it is clear then that there is a small percentage who do not feel the same, says Bodil Wegelius, counselor at Västerstrand School.

Teacher attendance and cell phone ban

The school's principal Ulf Eriksson says that they have dialogues with the students to find unsafe environments in the school and what measures can be considered appropriate.

Among other things, teachers are present in the changing rooms and the school also has a mobile phone ban.

- Absolutely, I think that mobile phones can have an impact on insecurity and for that reason we have a mobile-free school here, which we think is important to ensure safety in the school and in the changing room, says Ulf Eriksson.
