Widespread power outages, flight cancellations and flooding have hit Cuba, Florida and South Carolina after Hurricane Ian struck this week.

Florida continues the rescue effort, and more than 1,000 people have been rescued from flooded areas so far, according to Daniel Hokanson, head of the National Guard.

Gets a visit from Biden

Next week, US President Joe Biden will travel to Puerto Rico and Florida to visit the storm-affected areas.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre writes on Twitter that President Joe Biden, together with his wife Jill Biden, will first go to Puerto Rico, which was hit by Hurricane Fiona, and then go on to Florida.

Florida was worst hit

The hurricane has claimed at least 54 lives, of which 47 of these have died in Florida, AP reports.
