This is the first

official

photo of the King with the "queen consort" and his son William - heir to the throne - with his wife Kate, and with the publication, Buckingham Palace,

begins the new era of the British monarchy, after the death of the queen. Elizabeth

.

Curiosity: the photo - according to the Daily Mail - would have been taken after Elizabeth's death, on the eve of her funeral.

The royals are

smiling

and appear to be in a "relaxed pose", as the British newspaper writes.

All dressed in mourning.

In the shot, they are on the ministers' stairs at Buckingham Palace, where portraits of past monarchs adorn the walls.

Behind them is a portrait of King George III

- the longest-lived King in British history: he bought the "Buckingham House" (now home to Buckingham Palace) as a refuge.
