A tragic accident in a middle school in Egypt.. and the prosecution orders an investigation
A preparatory school for girls in Egypt witnessed a tragic accident on the first day of school Sunday, as a result of the collapse of part of the school staircase during the students’ ascent to the classroom, resulting in the death of a student and the injury of 15 of her classmates.
The accident, which coincided with the first day of the new school year in Egypt, occurred at the Al-Mutamadiya Preparatory School for Girls, which is affiliated to the Kerdasa Educational Administration in Giza, south of Cairo, as a result of the stampede and the failure to perform the necessary maintenance for the school.
According to "Al-Masry Al-Youm", the Public Prosecution received a notification from the police that after completing the recess in the school this morning, Sunday, while the students were going up to their classrooms, they pushed the stairs leading to the upper floor, which led to a partial collapse of the concrete fence of the stairs. As a result, a student died and 15 of her classmates were injured, who were taken to hospital.
The Egyptian Public Prosecutor ordered an investigation into the incident, and an investigation team was formed that moved to the school in question to inspect it and ask its director, the floor supervisor, and its security and maintenance officials, as well as questioning officials in the Educational Buildings Authority, the head of Kerdasa neighborhood, and witnesses, while another team moved to debate the body of the deceased student in a hospital. For his part, the Minister of Education offered condolences to the family of the student who died, and ordered the provision of necessary medical care to the injured students.
And the minister decided, “to refer the director of the educational administration, the school director, and the building supervisors to the investigation, in preparation for urgent legal action against all those proven responsible for the incident.”
The Minister also directed the Educational Buildings Authority to conduct a review once again of all school buildings to ensure the safety and security of buildings in schools at the level of the Republic.
