Ukraine on Saturday condemned the "illegal detention" of the general manager of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Igor Murachov, arrested on Friday by Russia according to the Ukrainian nuclear operator Energoatom.

According to his boss, Petro Kotin, Igor Murachov was arrested by a "Russian patrol" around 3 p.m. as he was traveling from the plant to the town of Ernogodar, controlled by the Russians.

Still according to him, the vehicle transporting the director of the plant was stopped and the latter was extracted from the car then “drove, blindfolded, towards an unknown destination”.

In a press release from kyiv, "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns in the strongest terms the illegal detention" of Igor Murachov, director of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, occupied since March 4 by Russian troops and targeted many times in recent months by bombings of which kyiv and Moscow accuse each other.

"This crime is a new act of state terrorism on the part of Russia and represents a serious violation of international law", castigated the Ukrainian diplomacy.

"We call on the international community, including the UN, the IAEA and the G7 to also take decisive action to this end," the ministry added.
