Ivory Coast: 10% increase in the purchase price of cocoa
According to the World Bank, in Côte d'Ivoire, “it is estimated that 54.9% of Ivorian cocoa producers and their families now live below the poverty line”.

60% of world cocoa production comes from Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana.
It represents nearly 15% of GDP in Côte d'Ivoire.
However, according to various studies, its producers live badly.
This Friday, September 30, on the occasion of the opening of the 2022-2023 campaign, the authorities announced a 10% increase in the purchase price to producers.

A welcome increase in the purchase price in a context marked by the increase in the price of inputs and generalized inflation.
A “ worrying

, underlined the Ivorian Minister of Agriculture.

This price per kilo is one of the components of the price of cocoa, to which is added in theory a premium of 400 dollars per ton, set up in 2019, paid by the industrialists, but whose effects have been little felt.
According to experts in the sector, these manufacturers have played on another lever, by reducing what is called the "country bonus".
Thus, they concretely limited their real commitment on the purchase price of Ivorian cocoa.
Despite the initiatives of recent years, cocoa prices have collapsed.
Planters are the most affected: according to
a study by the World Bank
, half of them live below the poverty line in Côte d'Ivoire.
