The authorities in Nicaragua warned the new US ambassador, Hugo Rodriguez, not to enter the country, and announced the severing of diplomatic relations with the Netherlands.

Rosario Moreau, Vice President of Nicaragua and his wife warned the new US-appointed ambassador that he would "not enter" her country, and justified this position by talking about "interference" by this diplomat.

"We reiterate that Hugo Rodriguez will not be admitted to Nicaragua under any circumstances," she said, reading a note from the State Department.

Nicaragua's Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that it had warned Washington on 28 July that the appointment of Rodriguez as ambassador to Managua would not be accepted, due to his "interference and disrespect" attitude.

And she considered that accepting his accreditation would constitute an "offense", after he described the Managua regime as a "dictator" in a hearing before the US Senate during the process of its confirmation.

severing ties with the Netherlands

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua announced yesterday evening, Friday, the severance of diplomatic relations with the Netherlands, accusing this country of an interventionist tendency, after its decision to cancel funding for the construction of a hospital.

The announcement by the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement came hours after President Daniel Ortega announced that he "no longer wants to establish relations with the interventionist government" in the Netherlands.

The Dutch ambassador to Nicaragua, Christine Perrin, announced Thursday that her country will no longer fund this health center.

And last Wednesday, Nicaragua's Foreign Minister, Denis Moncada, told the European Union ambassador in Managua, Bettina Mochait, that his government had decided to expel her from the country.

The government attributed its decision to expel Ambassador Mochait to "the European Union's interference in Nicaragua's affairs and its lack of respect for national sovereignty."

President Ortega also launched a violent attack on the Catholic Church, describing it as a "total dictatorship", after he accused the Catholic clergy of complicity in a coup attempt orchestrated by the United States.
