Tens of thousands of Palestinians performed the absentee prayer on Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi after the Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque, for the second time in a week.

The preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Sarandah, said in the Friday sermon, "The Islamic nation has lost one of its venerable scholars, a diligent, again a pioneer in science, a steadfast Azhari, defending the truth and its people. He is Sheikh Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the founder of the General Union of Muslim Scholars."

This is the second time that the absent prayers have been performed on Sheikh Al-Qaradawi in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The International Union of Muslim Scholars announced the death of its founder, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, at the age of 96, last Monday, and was buried in Doha the previous Tuesday.

Sheikh Al-Qaradawi is considered one of the prominent figures of Islam in the present era, as he spent his life among the fields of science, advocacy and work.

During his sermon, Sarandah described al-Qaradawi as "the icon of this age in science and jurisprudence", and that Al-Aqsa Mosque was present in his conscience and defending its sanctity.

The Department of Islamic Endowments in Jerusalem said that about 45,000 people participated in Friday prayers at the mosque.

And Israeli occupation police forces deployed in the Old City of Jerusalem and the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, but no clashes were recorded.

Dozens of Palestinians had organized a sit-down after prayers in the mosque, denouncing the Israeli attacks throughout the Palestinian territories and in solidarity with the prisoners in Israeli prisons.
