Putin: America and its allies destroyed two Nord Stream gas pipelines

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday directly accused the United States and its allies of blowing up two Nord Stream gas pipelines.

"Sanctions were not enough for the Anglo-Saxons, they moved on to sabotage. It's hard to believe, but it's a fact that they orchestrated the bombings of the two international Nord Stream gas pipelines," Putin said.

"They started destroying energy infrastructure all over Europe. The beneficiary of this is clear to everyone. Of course the beneficiary is the one who committed this," he added.

A sharp drop in pressure was recorded in both lines on September 26.

Seismologists detected explosions, sparking a wave of speculation about who was responsible for sabotaging one of Russia's most important energy corridors.

The European Union said it suspected an act of sabotage was behind the damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in Swedish and Danish waters.

The White House denied Russia's claim that the United States was behind the matter.

The Russian intelligence service said that Moscow had intelligence indicating that the West was behind what it described as a "terrorist act" in the pipelines.
