The UAE Embassy in Washington evacuates UAE nationals from Florida ahead of Hurricane Ian

The UAE embassy in Washington has evacuated UAE nationals in Florida to Washington, DC, under the supervision of His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States of America, due to the transformation of Tropical Storm "Ian" into a powerful hurricane threatening the state of Florida.

The Embassy’s Emergency and Crisis Committee, with the participation of all members of the embassy, ​​attachés, technical offices and scholarship agencies, developed the evacuation plan, which included the provision of a private plane and reservations on commercial flights to evacuate the country’s nationals and their escorts, numbering 141 people, to Dulles Airport in Washington, including 119 people who were evacuated via the private plane. And 13 people via commercial flights, while 9 people arrived by land to Washington.

The committee also organized other commercial flights to evacuate some citizens from cities within the state of Florida to safe neighboring states due to the lack of flights to Washington, due to bad weather.

The embassy has also allocated a working team to follow up the conditions of the citizens and their companions and provide them with all means of comfort and stability during their stay in Washington.

In this regard, Shaima Gargash, Deputy Head of Mission, said: "The UAE Embassy in Washington is keen to take all necessary precautions to ensure the security and safety of the country's citizens while they are in the United States of America, in direct coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation."

The UAE embassy expressed its appreciation for the great and effective role played by diplomats, embassy employees and all attachés, and the unlimited support of the UAE government to protect its citizens around the world.
