The Chief of Staff of the Occupation Army Aviv Kohavi, according to Israeli media, has authorized the implementation of air-to-air assassinations of Palestinian resistance fighters in the West Bank, at a time when Washington called for calm after the martyrdom of 4 Palestinians yesterday, Wednesday, during a military operation by the occupation forces in Jenin in the northern West Bank.

And the Israeli media reported that Kohavi stressed - during a meeting to assess the security situation in the West Bank following the military operation in Jenin camp - that in specific cases it is possible to carry out assassinations from the air in the West Bank, specifically if there is no way to harm those he described as saboteurs.

The operations authorized by the Israeli Chief of Staff are supposed to be carried out by drones.

This development comes at a time of frequent shootings by Palestinian resistance against the occupation forces in the West Bank.

A large Israeli force backed by dozens of vehicles stormed the Jenin refugee camp yesterday morning, and clashed with Palestinian resistance fighters, two of whom barricaded themselves in a house.

The operation resulted in the martyrdom of 4 resistance fighters: Abd Fathi Hazem, Muhammad Mahmoud Alona, Ahmad Nazmi Alawneh and Muhammad Abu Na`sa, and dozens of others were injured.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades of the National Liberation Movement (Fatah) mourned the martyrs, and confirmed that they were among its members.

While the Presidency of the Palestinian National Authority warned against the Israeli escalation, the Palestinian factions condemned the operation, vowing to confront the practices of the occupation.

Also in the West Bank, 12 Palestinians were wounded this morning, 5 of them with live bullets, in confrontations with the Israeli occupation forces in the city of Dura, south of Hebron.

An invitation to calm

The US State Department has expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in the West Bank, and its spokesman, Ned Price, called on the Palestinian and Israeli sides to do everything in their power to "reduce the escalation and restore calm," saying that this is in the interest of both sides.

The department added that the United States and partners were ready to help, but said this was not a substitute for Palestinians and Israelis to "restore calm" themselves.

The US State Department indicated that more than 100 Palestinians were killed this year in the West Bank and more than 30 in Gaza, in addition to more than 20 Israelis.

settlement expansion

Meanwhile, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wencesland, expressed his grave concern over the continued Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank.

Wencesland said - during an open session of the UN Security Council - that the Israeli Supreme Court's decision regarding the settlement of "Mitzpe Kerim" could set a precedent for the legalization of additional outposts.

The UN coordinator also called on the Israeli forces not to use what he described as lethal force against the Palestinians unless it is unavoidable, noting that the numbers of Palestinian casualties in the occupied West Bank are very worrying.
