After having served four months in prison for having slapped Emmanuel Macron on June 8, 2021 in Tain-l'Hermitage (Drôme), Damien Tarel appeared this Wednesday before the Grenoble Court of Appeal (Isère).

Now 29 years old, he had indeed appealed against the additional sentences imposed on him;

Deprivation of civic rights

The young man who describes himself as "patriot" and supporting the movement of "yellow vests" challenged the final ban on any public function or employment pronounced in immediate appearance.

His appeal also concerned a ban on possessing a weapon subject to authorization for five years as well as the deprivation of his civic, civil and family rights for three years.

During his appearance, the respondent spoke of the “symbolic violence” of his “regrettable” gesture.

However, he also explained that it was difficult for him to regret the slap to Emmanuel Macron, in whom he explained that he had not seen the function of President of the Republic at the time of the facts.

More than a month of waiting

The Advocate General for his part requested the maintenance of the additional penalties, considering that the gesture of the young man should not be trivialized.

Juan Branco, the latter's lawyer, put forward a system "prohibiting some from being heard".

The court's verdict will be delivered on November 2.
