The Emirates Heart Association reported that the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases among the country's population reaches 10%, and is a major cause of death with 40% of all deaths in the country.

Coinciding with World Heart Day, which falls on September 29 of each year, specialists stressed the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle from an early age, as the disease affects age groups within the country less than 20 years.

The Vice-President of the Society, Consultant of Cardiovascular Diseases, Professor Abdullah Shehab, explained that "the incidence of cardiovascular diseases in the country is about 20 years lower, compared to Europe, America and many countries of the world, whose incidence is concentrated in the age group between 60 and 65 years."

He stressed that the unhealthy lifestyle contributes significantly to the high rates of cardiovascular diseases, especially with the increase in the contributing factors to death from the disease, such as diabetes, stress, anxiety and tension.

He pointed out that a recent study conducted in the country revealed that between 70 and 80% of the population suffers from high cholesterol, a third of the population suffers from pressure, and a fifth of them suffer from diabetes, and one sixth of the population falls under the category of smokers.

Shehab said: "Despite the progress of the UAE in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases, awareness campaigns about the causes of these diseases must be intensified, to take appropriate preventive campaigns to address cardiovascular diseases, which often consist in changing the lifestyle and exercising."

For his part, the cardiologist at Al-Tadawi Hospital in Dubai, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Rawi, stressed the need to pay attention to the risk factors that raise the rates of cardiovascular diseases, which are “excess weight, high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol, and diabetes.” and genetic factors.

He advised the need to follow a healthy lifestyle, which combines healthy food and exercise continuously, and to stay away from any diets that may pose a threat to human health, such as the "keto diet".

He pointed out that cardiovascular disease has become affecting younger age groups than it was previously known, as hospitals receive young people at the end of their twenties who suffer from health problems in the heart and arteries, due to the wrong lifestyle, while these diseases start from the age of 45 years and above. .

The narrator warned against excessive reliance on fast food, excessive smoking, and giving in to psychological and life pressures, as these practices accelerate the incidence of cardiovascular diseases at an early age.

For its part, the Ministry of Health and Community Protection organized in its office, yesterday, in Dubai, free medical examinations for employees and customers, on the occasion of World Heart Day, and explained that it is working to raise awareness of various segments of society, about the impact of cardiovascular diseases on the quality of life, in which the prevention factor plays It plays a key role, through activities and events that constitute an institutional approach to limit the spread of the disease and improve the results of national health indicators, in line with government strategic plans and sustainable development programs.

The ministry stressed that launching national strategies, initiatives and campaigns that improve the quality of life for patients is among the priorities of the country's health system, which enhances the country's competitive position among the countries with the lowest mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases in the world.

The Ministry renewed the UAE's commitment to achieving the goals of the World Health Organization in reducing global deaths caused by non-communicable diseases, by up to 25% by 2025, given that heart diseases are responsible for about a third of deaths in the world.

Cardiac care unit

The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services reported that as part of its specialized programs and initiatives, it launched the Heart Care Unit, which is the latest specialized ambulance vehicle that it launched with the aim of providing advanced care for critical emergency cases, such as a heart attack or stroke, as well as responding to severe accidents according to the latest treatment protocols, while transporting the patient or the injured to the nearest and most appropriate hospital.

She stated that he works on board the Cardiac Care Unit as an advanced paramedic, equipped with all the expertise and professional knowledge, ready for all kinds of emergency cases.
