Officials: Washington is preparing a new arms package worth 1.1 billion dollars for Ukraine

US officials said the United States is preparing a new $1.1 billion arms package for Ukraine, which will be announced soon.

This package will be the latest batch of weapons Washington provides to Kiev as Russian forces fight in eastern Ukraine.

The officials, who declined to be identified, said the package would be announced in the coming days.

The package is expected to use funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which was appropriated by Congress to allow the administration of President Joe Biden to obtain weapons from the industry rather than from US stockpiles.

A source familiar with the plan said that the package will include HIMARS missile systems and their munitions, various types of anti-drone systems and radar systems, as well as spare parts, training and technical support.

Washington is preparing a new round of sanctions against Russia if it annexes the areas it controls in Ukraine, after referendums it conducted there.

Biden condemned those referendums and vowed that the United States would never recognize the results.
