Italy today reaches the target of 90% of gas storage, in advance of the deadline at the end of autumn.

This is what we read in a note from the Mite (the Ministry of Ecological Transition), in advance of the deadline for the end of autumn.

"A goal made possible by the intense work carried out by the government in recent months, thanks also to Snam and the support of Gse and Arera", says the

Minister

of Ecological Transition,

Roberto Cingolani

, who adds: "This result allows us to aim for towards an even more ambitious goal, on which we will work in the coming weeks, aimed at reaching 92-93% of storage filling, so as to guarantee greater flexibility in the event of peaks in winter consumption ".

Arera: "overall and physiological difficult situation to face"

Stefano Besseghini, president of Arera, the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment, who spoke at the Energy Summit 2022 in Piazza Affari in Milan was enthusiastic but cautious.

"The path taken so far as a gas storage campaign leads us to have reached the predetermined levels. This, in the face of the beginning of winter, is positive, but we do not think the work is finished" he said.

"There is a situation of overall and physiological difficulty that we must face", continued Besseghini, underlining "the urgency of decisions, with the expiry of the thermal year".

For his part, "Arera has tried to do its utmost within the limits of its role as regulator,

The managing director of Snam Stefano Venier

also spoke on the percentage of gas storage achieved by Italy

, during the Italian Energy Summit organized by Il Sole 24. "In terms of storage we are in a good condition. Compared to the objective of 90% we are there and this allows us to go further and take a step forward ".

Adding even half a billion cubic meters more - he added - gives us an advantage.

The more the storage is full, the more efficient it is at the exit ".

"We don't think the work is done ... There is an overall and physiological difficult situation that we have to face"
