• LOC The Prosecutor's Office asks for 8 years in prison for Shakira for defrauding 14.5 million euros from the Treasury

Shakira does not avoid the bench.

The Court of Instruction number 2 of Esplugues de Llobregat agrees to open a trial against the Colombian singer for six crimes against the Public Treasury "with the aggravating circumstances of the amount of fraud and use of interposed legal persons."

The decision comes after receiving the indictments from the Prosecutor's Office, the State Attorney's Office and the Generalitat in which they consider Shakira responsible for this fraud.

Specifically, he allegedly committed the crimes by not submitting the personal income tax and Wealth Tax settlement for 2012, 2013 and 2014 with an amount amounting to about 14.5 million euros.

For these crimes, the Prosecutor's Office asks for 8 years in prison for Shakira and a fine of almost 24 million euros for these crimes against the Public Treasury.

For this reason, she will have to sit on the bench in a trial that will be held in the coming months at the Barcelona Court.

The singer affirmed when the accusation was known that she suffers from persecution and that "for many years there has been no outstanding debt" with the Tax Agency, since shortly after the criminal process began in 2018 she paid 17.2 million that they claimed.

However, the Prosecutor's Office maintains that the Colombian singer allegedly did not present the liquidation of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF) and Wealth Tax (IP) corresponding to 2012, 2013 and 2014, which caused economic damage to the Treasury. 12.3 million for income tax and 2.19 million for wealth tax to the Agència Tributària de Catalunya.

The public accusation believes that the singer should pay taxes in Spanish territory since she lived in the country for more than the minimum six months established by law, although the artist assured that this was not the case, despite the fact that it was when she began her relationship with the FC player Barcelona Gerard Piqué, and that he paid taxes on the income from his professional activity in the Bahamas since he had his official residence.

Now, Shakira will have to sit on the bench to defend her innocence.
