It was when Lars Lindström was going to look at the steam locomotive train that he discovered that all seven historic railway carriages had been vandalized.

- When I saw the devastation, I thought, "oh hell, is it the same in all the wagons" and it was!

The thugs have broken at least 150 unique light bulbs, smashed 25 panes of glass and smashed two microwave ovens and two refrigerators, he says.

Damage even before

It is not the first time that the historic train from the 1930s has been subjected to extensive vandalism.

- Also in 2017, the steam locomotive train was subjected to enormous damage and that it is happening again is extremely sad, says Lars Lindström.

Just over 25 years ago, the railway association started steam locomotive traffic between Arvidsjaur and Slagnäs in the summer.

The steam locomotive has been one of Arvidsjaur's biggest tourist attractions, according to Lindström.

Appreciated train - and expensive bill

According to Lars Lindström, restoring the railcars would cost at least SEK 100,000.

- The steam locomotive train has been very popular and attracted many tourists.

The thugs who vandalize should be ashamed of Arvidsjaur's population.

They destroy not only for us but also for the whole society, he says.

Hope the vandals are punished

The incident has been reported to the police and the police have been on the scene and carried out a crime scene investigation.

- I hope that those who have been here and vandalized get their punishment, that they have to clean up after themselves and pay heavily.

Unfortunately, this could mean the end of steam locomotive traffic, says traffic manager Lars Lindström.
