According to the politician, the relevant measures "will be introduced through the European Union."

On September 23, in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as in the liberated territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, referendums began on the issue of joining Russia.

US leader Joe Biden announced his readiness to impose "quick and severe" economic sanctions on Russia in response to the referendums.

A similar position was made by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

On September 26, the UK added 33 people associated with the referendums to the sanctions list.
