On September 27, local time, the European Commission announced that it agreed to release the second batch of 21 billion euros of recovery funds to Italy.

This tranche includes a grant of 10 billion euros and a loan of 11 billion euros.

The European Commission assesses that Italy has achieved all 45 goals set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan for the first half of 2022, including reforms in key areas such as public procurement, public employees, tax administration and local health services.

The European Commission has sent the decision to the European Economic and Financial Commission for approval, after which the EU will make a payment decision.

Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan on how to use EU funds involves 191.6 billion euros, of which 69 billion is in grants and 122.6 billion in loans.

So far, the EU has allocated 24.9 billion euros in advance and the first 21 billion euros in funding.
