In a debate article in Svenska Dagbladet, several representatives for the Center Party write that they want to see Helena Lindahl as the new party leader.

Two of them are Övertorneå's municipal councilor Tomas Mörtberg and Kiruna's municipal councilor Gunnar Selberg.

They believe that the party is stuck in a values-driven "closer to identity politics" course and needs to reconnect with the party's roots in the countryside.

Do we need to reevaluate the party's red lines against, for example, the Sweden Democrats?

- I don't think we should have red lines, we should orient ourselves based on where we stand and what we think, says Gunnar Selberg.

Göran Nygren is vice chairman of the Center Party Norrbotten.

- They can have that opinion.

It is free to think.

According to Göran Nygren, the district has not started the nomination process of a new party leader yet.

Internal process

How do you see Helena Lindahl as the new party leader?

- I know who she is and she is very talented and has great confidence among many up here.

After all, we have a process to be done and we'll see where it lands.

The Center Party lost 1.8 percentage points in the election and fared poorly in many municipalities in Norrbotten.

The party also lost its Riksdag mandate from the county to the Sweden Democrats.

- It's very sad.

One can speculate about the reasons as much as one likes.

I don't want to guess.

Work will be done internally to find out why it turned out this way, says Göran Nygren.
