“Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin ... arrived in the city of Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic in connection with the investigation of a criminal case related to an attack on a school,” the report says.

Bastrykin examined the scene and instructed the investigators and forensic experts to collect and fix the necessary evidence and to appoint expert studies.

Earlier, the press service of the government of Udmurtia, citing the Russian Investigative Committee, reported that the death toll in a school shooting in Izhevsk had risen to 17, of which 11 were children.

From 26 to 29 September, mourning for the dead was declared in Udmurtia.
