The government wants to end the reimbursement of work stoppages issued by teleconsultation when these are not issued by the attending physician, announced the Minister of Action and Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal to the "Journal du Dimanche".

According to the government, this practice has exploded.

The government has noted an explosion of sick leave prescribed in teleconsultation by a professional, other than the attending physician.

Last year, they cost Health Insurance nearly 100 million euros, according to Gabriel Attal.

Implementation possible from 2023

Indeed, some patients would abuse the system thanks to online consultation platforms, denounces Jean-Paul Hamon, doctor honorary president of the Federation of Doctors of France: "When you can choose your consultation as you want, that it is reimbursed and that at the end of your consultation, you do not obtain a work stoppage, well you make an appointment with a new doctor. And until you obtain a work stoppage of two, three or four days or a week, depending on the symptoms you describe, without the doctor being able to verify", he explains at the microphone of Europe 1.

According to the draft social security financing bill, the measure could come into force on June 1, 2023. Sick leave delivered in the office or by the attending physician in teleconsultation will always be reimbursed.
