On Monday morning, the police stopped about a hundred motorists on national highway 35 near Grebo.

- We carry out sobriety checks and inform about how to report wildlife accidents, says PA Eriksson, responsible for wildlife-related accidents in the Östergötland police area.

Obliged to report

Motorists are obliged to report accidents involving elk, deer, deer, wild boar, bear, wolf, wolverine, loon, otter, eagle and mouflon sheep.

Failure to report a wildlife accident involving said animal is punishable.

- You can use the SOS app called 112, then the police get the exact coordinates and it makes it easier for the searchers who are sent to the scene, says PA Eriksson.

Monday's check otherwise resulted in three fines, including when a driver was not wearing a seat belt.
