The Lebanese presidency announced, in a statement this morning, Monday, that it expects to receive a written offer from the American mediator, Amos Hochstein, to demarcate the maritime border with Israel at the end of this week.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Abu Saab said that the American mediator will send a written offer before the end of the week, after Abu Saab met with President Michel Aoun, where he briefed him on the latest developments in the file upon his return from New York.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati had said - during an interview with "Monitor" magazine two days ago - that US mediation helped push for the completion of the demarcation, adding that there are still details to be clarified, and that the final solution has not yet been achieved.

And Israeli Channel 13 recently reported that Prime Minister Yair Lapid held discussions on the file of demarcating the maritime border with Lebanon, with the participation of senior members of the security establishment.

The official Israeli radio station Kan also recently quoted a senior official as saying that progress was made during the participation of representatives of Lebanon, Israel and the United States in New York in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, where the American mediator was keen to convey messages between the two parties.

For two years, the United States has been mediating between Israel and Lebanon to reach an agreement delineating the maritime borders between them and removing obstacles to oil and gas exploration and extraction.

And last June, tension escalated when the Energean gas companies arrived in the disputed sea area in favor of Tel Aviv, where Hezbollah repeatedly warned Israel against carrying out any activity in the offshore Karish field, and the latter announced on July 2 the interception of 3 Rallies belonging to this party were heading to the gas fields area.
