“Transparency”.

The word is written in large letters in the reception room of the Clos des Lilas nursing home in Eaubonne, near Paris.

For five months, residents, families and staff from all over France were able to give their opinion on things to improve within the Orpea group.

And this until the last moment on Monday.

Among the demands: better food, more interactions and above all more staff.

We have three or four hours, depending on our shift schedule, to do between ten and twelve toilets

”, testifies a caregiver.

We are locked up all the time

,” laments a resident.

Present among the residents, the new general manager Laurent Guillot insists: his mandate will be that of reconstruction.

Orpea is damaged.

Orpea must be rebuilt on sound fundamentals

”, insists Laurent Guillot, who indicates that 650 people were recruited in the first half and that a major recruitment plan has been launched for the second half and next year.

One thousand six hundred people must thus be hired by December.

This makes many relatives of residents fear an explosion in the monthly bill in the group's nursing homes.

Not a word, however, has been said about the 80 complaints filed by relatives of residents since the publication in January of the investigative book

Les Fossoyeurs

, which accuses Orpea of mistreatment of residents, accounting fraud and questionable practices in matters of human resources.

Justice opened a preliminary investigation in April for institutional mistreatment and financial crimes, following a report by the government.
