It was late in the evening when Per Sandberg received a phone call from an acquaintance who, together with his brother, had witnessed the assault.

- He comes to my house, completely shocked and says that Ulf has been beaten up in town.

He tried to stop the assault, but then the perpetrators attacked him instead.

"Lying on the ground without a shirt"

Together with his son, Per Sandberg went to the place where the assault took place.

- When we get down there are already two ambulances there.

Ulf lies on the ground without a shirt.

The paramedics give him CPR.

- I understood even then that this does not look good.

Known by everyone

During the night word came that his brother's life could not be saved.

Oskarshamn residents show their full support on social media.

Both Sandberg brothers are known in Oskarshamn, as they have devoted a large part of their lives to ice hockey and IK Oskarshamn.

- There is such incredible support around this.

Just look at everyone who has laid flowers and lit candles down town.

I don't know how many phone calls I have received.

But it's also very comforting – that people get in touch.

Brain surgery in the 80s

After a brain tumor, Ulf underwent a brain operation that left Ulf Sandberg disabled for life.

He became facially paralyzed and had problems with his balance.

But despite his difficulties, nothing stopped him from living a social life.

- My brother has had to fight his way through this life.

He has nevertheless tried to live the whole time.

He has tried not to lock himself up or crawl away somewhere.

- What bloody scumbags who prey on a person who is really completely defenseless.

Regardless of whether it has any background, it is completely to hell, says Per Sandberg.

Two male suspects were arrested on Monday on probable cause on suspicion of murder.
