Hackers from the southern Ile-de-France hospital center in Corbeil-Essonnes released some of the personal data stolen from patients and hospital staff this weekend.

More than 11 gigabytes of sensitive content are now online.

Objective for the hackers: that the hospital pay the ransom of 2 million euros.

They finally followed through on their threat.

By distributing the stolen data, hackers from the hospital center in Corbeil-Essonnes (Essonne) put pressure on the hospital.

Making part of the data public allows them to show that they are capable of doing so.

Unquestionably, this gives them credibility.

The hackers rely on the victim eventually snapping and paying at least part of the ransom.

Moreover, this ransom was originally 10 million dollars.

It was reduced to 2 million.

The first to destroy stolen data.

The other half in exchange for a decryption key so that the hospital has access to its operating system again.

The Lockbit 3.0 group behind the attack

This hostage-taking of digital data on a health establishment is quite unprecedented, at least by the length of its negotiation phase since it has been going on since August 21.

According to our information, negotiators from the GIGN, the elite unit of the national gendarmerie, were involved in the investigation.

To date, the gendarmes have identified the signature of the computer attack.

Just like hackers, blackmailers from the Lockbit 3.0 ransomware group.

This Russian-speaking criminal group claims hundreds of pirates worldwide.

Since September 1, they have allegedly attacked nearly 150 companies on the internet.
