His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, received yesterday the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, who is on a working visit to the country.

During the meeting, which took place at the Beach Palace, His Highness welcomed the German chancellor, wishing his friendly country and people continued progress and prosperity.

The two sides discussed paths of cooperation and opportunities to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership that brings the two countries together during the next phase, especially in the economic, investment and trade fields, in addition to renewable energy, food security, advanced science and technology, and joint efforts in addressing climate change and preserving and sustaining the environment.

His Highness and the German Chancellor also reviewed a number of issues and developments on the regional and international arenas, and exchanged views on issues of common interest.

In this context, they affirmed that cooperation and dialogue and giving priority to diplomatic solutions are the way to address various issues and crises, continue economic growth and political stability, and achieve a better future for current and future generations.

The two sides expressed their aspiration to work together to achieve further development in the course of bilateral relations and to build on what has been achieved during the past years.

The meeting also touched on the importance of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will be hosted by the UAE next year.

Yesterday, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Olaf Scholz witnessed the signing ceremony of a new strategic partnership agreement in the field of accelerating energy security and industrial growth, aimed at accelerating the implementation of projects of common interest between the UAE and Germany in the areas of energy security and reduction emissions and climate action.

The agreement, which took place at Al Shati Palace, was signed by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, Managing Director and CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its group of companies, and Minister of State at the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action in the Republic of Federal Germany Dr. Franziska Brantner.

As part of these joint efforts, ADNOC entered into an agreement to supply liquefied natural gas to the German company RWEAG (RWE), under which ADNOC will export the first shipment of liquefied natural gas to Germany and deliver it in late 2022 for use in trial operation. In accordance with the agreement, ADNOC has allocated additional shipments of LNG to its customers in Germany, which will be delivered in 2023.

ADNOC also signed a number of agreements with customers from Germany, including (Steag GmbH) “Steag” and (Orbis AG) “Orbis” to export trial shipments of low-carbon ammonia, which is a transport fuel for hydrogen that plays a pivotal role. It is noteworthy that the first trial shipment of low-carbon ammonia produced by Abu Dhabi arrived at the port of Hamburg early this month.

Under the Energy Security and Industrial Growth Accelerators Cooperation Program, the UAE and Germany will explore more opportunities to accelerate growth and enhance cooperation in all areas of the hydrogen sector value chain.

For its part, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company "Masdar" will intensify its efforts to explore more opportunities in the wind energy markets in northern Europe and the Baltic Sea in Germany to increase production from renewable energy sources to 10 gigawatts by 2030, subject to meeting the requirements and regulatory conditions in the UAE and Germany.

It was also announced that ADNOC had completed the first direct delivery of a shipment of diesel from its production to Germany in September 2022, and that an agreement had been reached with Wilhelm Heuer GmbH on terms for the supply of up to 250 thousand tons per month of diesel fuel during 2023.

Olaf Scholz said: "I welcome the signing of the joint declaration of intent on (accelerating energy security and industrial growth), which will enable us to accelerate the implementation of strategic projects that focus particularly on renewable energies, hydrogen, liquefied natural gas and climate action."

For his part, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber said that the UAE has solid and distinguished friendship relations with Germany, and in line with the leadership’s vision of strengthening bridges of cooperation and communication, building qualitative partnerships, strengthening bilateral relations, and exploring opportunities for cooperation and joint investment in all vital fields, especially traditional and renewable energy, and other fields. The Head of State starts tomorrow a state visit to Oman

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, will pay a two-day state visit to the sisterly Sultanate of Oman, at the invitation of his brother, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said, Sultan of Oman.

The visit comes out of the well-established historical brotherly relations that bind the two countries, and to strengthen the bonds of love and ties of kinship that unite the two brotherly peoples.

During the visit, the two leaders will discuss strengthening cooperation and joint coordination in various economic, commercial, investment, cultural and development fields and pushing them forward to meet the aspirations of the two countries and achieve their goals for sustainable development.

The two sides will also discuss the overall Gulf and Arab developments, issues of common concern, and the two countries' efforts to establish security and stability in the region.
