Justice was much more lenient on appeal.

Retried before the Assize Court of Côtes-d'Armor for the murder of Dorian Guémené in 2018 in Rennes, the five accused were sentenced on Friday to terms ranging from three to twelve years in prison.

At first instance, the Assize Court of Ille-et-Vilaine sentenced the five young men to terms of eight to fifteen years in prison.

Main defendant in this case, Sacha Réthoré was sentenced to twelve years in prison.

During the trial, he admitted to having struck the victim seven or eight times.

His brother Stanislas Réthoré was sentenced to three years in prison, including one year suspended, against eight years at first instance.

Having already served his sentence, he emerged free at the end of the trial.

Penalties halved

A third defendant received a six-year sentence, compared to ten years at the first trial.

Two other defendants, sentenced in Rennes to ten and thirteen years' imprisonment, were finally sentenced on appeal to five years in prison, including one year suspended.

On July 7, 2018 in the early morning, Dorian Guémené was beaten to death at the exit of a nightclub in Rennes.

Lying bloodied on a sidewalk, the young 24-year-old bartender had received numerous blows to the face.

He died the next day at CHU Pontchaillou as a result of his injuries.

The autopsy had revealed a “predominant facial crash on the left” with “brain trauma” and “cerebral edema”.
