North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea from the Taecheon area in North Pyongan Province at 6:53 a.m. today (25th), the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said, "The flight distance was about 600 km, the altitude was about 60 km, and the speed was about Mach 5.

Kim Seung-gyeom, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, shared the situation closely with the commander of the Combined Forces Command Lacamera through a joint meeting shortly after North Korea's ballistic missile launch, the Joint Chiefs of Staff reported.

"We reaffirmed that we will further strengthen our combined defense posture against any threats and provocations from North Korea through the planned joint ROK-U.S. naval exercise," he said.

"The launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea is a serious provocation that harms the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula as well as the international community," the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

“Our military will maintain a firm readiness posture based on its ability to overwhelmingly respond to any provocation from North Korea, while tracking and monitoring related trends in close cooperation between the ROK and the United States in preparation for further North Korean provocations,” he said.
