The war in Ukraine with the abuse and brutality of the aggressor has precedents in Russian and Soviet history, according to British war historian Antony Beevor. He has written a book about the Russian Revolution and Civil War more than 100 years ago, and he is worried about President Putin's threat of nuclear weapons.
The risk that the Russian army could launch a nuclear war without even receiving an order to do so from the top leadership has existed for a long time.
