Montpellier airport in France was temporarily closed on the 24th after a Boeing freighter crashed into a nearby lake during landing.

  A Boeing 737 cargo plane of West Atlantic Cargo Airlines skidded off the runway when it landed at Montpellier Airport in the early morning of the same day and plunged its nose into a nearby lake. Fortunately, no one was injured.

  The cargo plane took off from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.

All three crew members on board were evacuated safely.

  The department of Hérault, where the airport is located, said that for safety reasons, Montpellier airport will be closed until further notice, and professional agencies will remove the crashed plane.

  Flights to and from Montpellier Airport were forced to be cancelled or diverted to other airports.

Agence France-Presse reported that the airport receives about 197,000 passengers a month during peak season.

  The cause of the accident is not yet known, and the incident is still under investigation.
