The Thai government has announced that it will lift the state of emergency, which has been in effect for about two and a half years as a countermeasure against the new coronavirus, on the 30th of this month.

Along with this, from the 1st of next month, the number of days that foreign tourists can stay without a visa will be extended, and it is expected to revitalize the tourism industry, which has fallen due to the spread of infection.

Thai health authorities have announced that they will lift the declaration of emergency that has been ongoing since the end of the year on the 30th of this month, saying that the vaccination rate for the new coronavirus is increasing and the number of cases of severe illness is decreasing.

This eliminates the need to present proof of vaccination or negative proof when entering Thailand.

In addition, from the 1st of next month, the visa-free period for foreign tourists, including those from Japan, will be extended from the current maximum of 30 days to a maximum of 45 days for the time being.

In Thailand, about 40 million foreign tourists visited annually before the spread of infection, but last year it was about 400,000, a sharp decrease to 1%.

Although this year is on a recovery trend, the number of visitors remained at more than 5.2 million by the 21st, and it is expected that the tourism industry, which has fallen due to the lifting of the state of emergency, will be further revitalized.

However, health authorities continue to demand that infection control be continued, such as recommending wearing masks in crowded places.
